Dr Subash: It certainly feels good ,and a sense of relief prevails.I believe in hard work but with such high competition, I was not sure if I could get the desired rank.
OPN: Who would you like to share your credit of success with? Any role models in your life?
Dr Subash: This is a long journey.Without my parents' love and support ,this wouldn't be possible. My seniors and friends who have excelled in various exams are source of inspiration.
OPN: Please share your brief story after internship completion till the PG success day.
Dr Subash: After Internship,I have been working in Mangalbare PHC ,Ilam for nearly 4 years (including 2 years bond ). Getting a pg seat was always my primary motive .So I allocated some time daily for it .My first encounter with PG entrance was that of IOM 2 years back .Then after I became serious about exams .Recent IOM exam gave some confidence and finally I succeeded in BPKIHS. So it was a long journey.
OPN: How tough are entrance exams these days? How should an aspirant choose a smart way to excel?
Dr Subash: The competition is fierce, the seats limited.Preparing early ,continuing steadily, revising timely and sitting in exams confidently are some of the things that matter.
OPN: What are the books and other resources you used for entrance preparation?
Dr Subash: I tried most of the books and resources available in the market in early phase .Then I became selective in final phases of preparation. For question bank, Mudit Khanna and Pre-PG app were my first choices. First aid for basic and For overall review of material sure success magic and some selected portions of roams.I read few subject-wise books, most importantly surgery by Amit Ashish , Gyne/obs Sakshi Arora. And I took all of the tests of online PG Nepal to gauze my preparation level .
OPN: What advice would you like to give to future PG aspirants?
Dr Subash: As I have already said, starting early and revising frequently are two of the things that matter the most.one should never lose hope .Hard work eventually pays off.
OPN: What is adequate period of study and daily study hour?
Dr Subash: Intensity of study should be indirectly proportional to time remaining for exams .One can gradually increase study hours from 4 /5 hours one year before exams to 10/ 15 hours per day just before exam.
OPN: 1 month before exam, what shall students focus on?
Dr Subash: It is obviously the revision.Revising the question bank, important charts ,diagrams tables, classifications etc should be the priority.
OPN: OPN: How can aspirants parallel their PG preparation and job together?
Dr Subash: It is difficult but doable. During early phase few hours after OPD per day should be enough.I took leave from job in last month to concentrate fully for exam.
OPN: How can an aspirant prepare smart to excel competitive exams? Any tips about reading habit, memorizing and practicing technique?
Dr Subash: There are various memory techniques available. Flashcard, mindmap, mnemonics, story method, memory palace are some of them which one can use according to their preference. Taking some breaks /power naps/music etc are some of the things one can use to relax.
